Easy Ranch Chicken

When I saw "Easy," I mean EASY!  LOL  4 Ingredients folks!!!!  Whoo hoo!  This is really just a slight twist on the original Easy Chicken I made the first month I started the blog.  Really, the main difference is I used a Ranch Dressing Packet instead of an Italian Dressing packet.  I also used Boneless Skinless Chicken breasts instead of bone-in chicken just because it's what I had.   It turned out great!  The whole family ate well tonight!  We served ours with a salad and an Italian Risotto (out of the box!) as our sides tonight.

I was a little concerned about the Chicken drying out since it was boneless skinless, but it didn't!  Plus, there was plenty of juice in the bottom of the Slow Cooker to "soak" it with when I served it!  Bone in chicken would work great with this as well!

My friend Natalie told me she makes Easy Chicken sometimes once a week and then shreds it and makes tacos, BBQ pulled Chicken, etc.  The possibilities are endless!

Here it is!

Easy Ranch Chicken

Ingredients:
1 lb. FROZEN boneless skinless or bone-in chicken
1 small onion, cut in half and then sliced into half rings
1 pkg. Hidden Valley Ranch Dry Dressing
1 cup warm water

Directions:
Place the onions into the Slow Cooker, put the chicken on top, then sprinkle with the dry Ranch.

Pour the cup of warm water over the top being careful not to wash off all the good seasoning!

For Boneless Skinless Chicken - Cook on LOW for 6-8 hours

For Bone-In Chicken - Cook on LOW 8-10 hours

Enjoy!!!!!

  1. Super easy and yummy. I added 1.5 packs of ranch dip because I love ranch flavor. We added thighs from the Costco package and have enough for 1 person's lunch tomorrow. I don't like juicy chicken so I probably would add just .5 cups water.

  4. I made this tonight! My 5-year-old ate this chicken (with no onions served on his) faster than he has ever eaten chicken! I would maybe try more ranch and less water too, but it was definitely tasty just like this.

  5. I ended up using 11 bone-in thighs and 2 ranch dressing packets and 1 1/2 cups of warm water. We'll see how it turns out! :)

Quick question: I used bone in thighs(4) half frozen from the start... Can this be Cooke on high for 6rs instead of on low for 8hrs? My family not home earlier than originally planned. It has been cooking on high for 5 1/2hrs... ?

    1. Cooking on HIGH for 6 hrs is the equivalent of cooking on LOW for 12. You don't need that long. 4 hrs on high would be sufficient. I'm sure it was VERY tender! LOL

  8. What if I only have a ranch dip not dressing, will it still be ok?

  10. LOVE this recipe! Only thing is I get so frustrated trying to get that little piece of paper off the frozen chicken before I put it into the crock pot. Thawing the chicken right now in the sink as I type.

  11. Would it work to substitute sour cream in place of the water? I'm just thinking about creaminess lol. If that's even a word

  16. I am making this easy ranch chicken in my crockpot as I write this. Am anxious to see how it turns out. My husband and I love anything with ranch dressing! After I sprinkled the dry ranch dressing over the chicken, I placed small, whole potatoes on top of the chicken. When I serve it, I will cut open the potato, mash the potato with a fork, add butter, salt and pepper, then spoon the ranch dressing liquid over the potato. We love cheese so I will add grated cheese on top and serve with a tossed salad. Will let you know how it goes!

  17. If you were to add green beans and carrots to this, would you throw them in from the beginning? High for 6 hours?

    1. Carrots, yes. Definitely not high for 6 hours though. That's like 12 hours in low! Add the green beans 40 minutes before the end of cooking time

  18. I have 8 chicken drumsticks that are thawed I'd like yo use. How long would you suggest to cook them at? I'm still getting used to the temps on the crock pot, but love it!
